Sort Vokter was a one off, spur of the moment project, conceived in Notodden, Telemark, were three of us resided at the time. I, Nidhogg, and Vidar, Ildjarn, knew each other from years back and had made music together for some time already, in Gamlebanken, Akkerhaugen. I knew the other two guys, Heiinghund and Tvigygre, through “common interests” seeing as we resided in Notodden, and hung out together. They were also mucisians and Tvigygre happened to work as a studio technician at the time, which granted us free access to his workplace a couple of weekends. I think we came up with the whole idea and concept one night when we were together at the dorm were I lived at the time. It didn’t take much planning at all, since all four of us were interested in the mystique of nature and gravitated to the sound of black metal, the concept was evident.
As far as I can remember, we used one weekend for recording and one weekend for mixing, which resulted in one mix (called “shitmix”), and one mix that we used. Most of the songs were written on the spot, in the studio, but one was a development of a song me and Vidar had worked on, “Bak to lysende øyne”. Another one was Tvigygres finished composition, “Tårers sang”, and a third, “Fjellstev”, was something I came up with on a simple synth at home in between the sessions, that we transferred to a studio synth using a midi sequencer. The other songs were made on the spot, as far as I can remember.
Vidar has vehemently denied smoking cannabis during the sessions, which is true. However, that can’t be said for the rest of us, and for what it’s worth, my opinion is that it actually helped the ideas flow better when we were “at it”.
After the mixing we never resumed a collaboration like that again, and it was never meant to be repeated either. The rumours that there are additional rehersals or bootlegs by Sort Vokter are wholly untrue.
It was only a one off thing, even though we stayed in touch for years after “Folkloric Necro Metal” was released.

(Liner notes from Tvigygre)
What I remember most is the fevered alchemy of creation — The weekend spent mixing and recording the album. The driving force was the hunger to annihilate every rule of sound, to forge an anti-sonic entity, a hymn of defiance. What began as rebellion — noise that seemed like torment to mortal ears — revealed, in its cruel resonance, something otherworldly: cold, demonic, yet strangely ethereal. In the collision of ice and fire, something unique was born.
